Swedese was founded by furniture designer Yngve Ekström and his brother Jerker in 1945. The company they created has today become one of the world’s more interesting furniture producers. The headquarters are based in Vakerydd in central southern Sweden, with a second factory located at Äng, a small village outside Nässjö.
Yngve Ekström always worked to a trusted formula: sublime and long-lasting design, produced by extremely skilful craftsmen, developing new techniques, using high quality and natural materials such as wood, linen, sheepskin and steel. This philosophy is realised in his design for the Lamino easy chair from 1956 which continues to be a worldwide best seller.
Ekström’s formula is now maintained by Peter Jiseborn, Swedese’s CEO and creative director since 2004. As well as being technically involved with the development of the furniture he is dedicated to finding the best new talent and also convincing many internationally famous designers to collaborate with the company. This policy has resulted in many outstanding, award-winning products. Perhaps even more importantly than producing separate items, Peter Jisborn has succeeded in creating a wonderful Swedese collection consisting of design classics that are never old and intriguing new pieces which should achieve longevity.
