Established in 1978, Zero’s initial success was in the production of innovative lamp shades made from perforated metal - a new and original material at the time.
It was the inspired choice of their then design director Börge Lindau (who later went on to set up his own furniture company, Blå Station).
Zero expanded and evolved into the exciting company it is today, working with many remarkable Scandinavian designers but now using a variety of materials.
This enigmatic quotation from their website aptly sums up what inspires Zero’s quest for new and inspiring designs : ‘Our hearts have grown up in the gloomy darkness of the Scandinavian winter and in the brilliant sunshine of the Scandinavian Summer - a double life that involves us in a complicated love affair with light and shadow, darkness and shape. This double life creates a fantastic seed bed for functional design combined with emotion.’
